Material has to go somewhere, and on most jobs the haul-off is a bigger share of the cost than the cutting. We run our own trucks and our own processing, so it goes to recycling rather than landfill.
That applies to our own work and to material from other people's — logs, chips and brush from a job someone else cut, or from a site clean-up.
Processed material becomes mulch, which is the same stream our mulch production runs on. Logs worth milling go to a local sawyer instead, and what suits neither is burned as fuel at a co-generation plant rather than buried.

Hauling & disposal: common questions
- Will you take material from a job you did not do?
- Yes. Logs, chips and brush from another contractor's work, or a pile that has been sitting on the property, can be hauled out the same way.
- Where does it actually go?
- Three places, and none of them is landfill. Brush and smaller wood are ground and screened into mulch. Logs big and sound enough to mill go to a local sawyer, to come back as slabs, mantels and benches. What suits neither is used as fuel at a co-generation plant. Processing it ourselves costs less than paying to dump it, which is why we own the grinding equipment at all.
- Can you take a large log whole?
- Often it is easier not to. Large logs and stumps can be downsized, sheared or split on site, which turns an awkward lift into a straightforward one and usually costs less than the equipment required to move it whole.
